The Universe brought us a new little friend to care for this year. I don’t think she can fly. I have fed her and tried releasing her 3 times and she won’t leave. She seems pretty tired, not a lot of energy despite feedings so maybe she is just close to the end of her life cycle. Hubby found her yesterday hiding in our mailbox drenched in water from the rain and brought her inside to refuel. After she ate and dried off, we left her outside for about an hour to give her an opportunity to fly away but she didn’t. So we brought her in to stay warm and now it looks like we may have acquired another tiny pet. Will keep giving her opportunities to leave if she wants to, but if she doesn’t, we’ll make sure she has a peaceful end of life eating honey and sugar water.
Butterfly photos are of Butterfree, our flightless tiger swallowtail butterfly whom we had the honor of caring for last year. He lived a full life cycle, 3-4 weeks with us before he passed. He was such a sweet little soul. 🦋
